Greetings and good morning brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series where we seek to explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years, the heavenly Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth to me, and I want to share them with you. This morning we will ponder our lives as we seek to understand how we take flight upon the wings of love.
And now, sit back and listen to today's message.
The Wings of Love
“Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest.” Psalms, Chapter 55, Verse 6.
Oh! if I could fly away like a dove,
And leave behind the troubles of this world,
If only I could catch flight on the wings of love,
If I could only leave behind the broken dreams,
And escape from the tear stains of bleary eyes,
Oh! if I only could, if I only had the means,
Oh! If there were some way to cause the sun to shine,
And melt this ice burg of sorrow and despair,
Oh! if I only could, I would be fine.
Oh! if only I could catch the light of a distant star,
And flee from the shadows of darkness and find
The land of happiness, Lord Jesus where you are,
Happy indeed would be my soul and mind.
Brothers and sisters, in today’s broadcast we show how we take flight upon the wings of love. To catch flight on the wings of love, we must cease to stay on the ground, riding the train of selfishness and hate. We must get out of our seats of fear and unbelief, and must cease to enjoy the passing scenery of ugliness.
To catch flight on the wings of love, we must make a whole hearted decision to do the Father's will. We must abandon the dead center of stagnation, and muster all the determination that we possess to seek for an ever enlargement knowledge of the Father's will. We must diligently seek the Son, Jesus to find the Father. We must consistently petition His Spirit of Truth for knowledge of the Father. We must consistently and persistently seek the will of the Father in order to become like Him, and not let anything in heaven or earth deter us from our task.
To catch flight on the wings of love, we must escape from the prison of self with its broken dreams and tear stained eyes. We must dissolve the troubles of self by resolving to get involved in the troubles of others. Only by whole heartily helping others resolve their troubles can we dissolve our own, in effect change our attitude towards our problems.
To catch flight on the wings of love, we must leave behind the pain, sorrow, and disappointment of our own lives. We must let go of these three pronged horses of defeat by seeking to ease the pain of someone else, to ease the sorrow and to vanquish the disappointment of someone else. We must seek to bathe our sisters and brothers' pain in pleasure, their sorrow with joy, and their temporal disappointment with eternal success.
To soar the spiritual heavens on the mighty wings of love requires that we exercise faith in the goodness of the Father's love and the Son’s mercy. It requires that we acquire a new way of viewing reality, and a new way of reacting to the old reality. No longer must we run alone with our gas tanks of love on empty. We must be on the lookout for those hitch hikers of evil who are stranded alongside the road of life.
All experiences that we encounter must be used to generate goodness. No longer must the evil shadows of depression block out the light of the Father's love, and the Son’s mercy. In the very midst of our depression, we must cry out, "Not my will but Your will be done." The force and strength of this decision will sustain us during the dark side of life, and will bring us out of the clouds of doubt into the sunlight of faith.
Riding the wings of love requires courage, strength, understanding, wisdom, patience, and endurance, coupled with a humility of spirit. It means effort, struggle, and setbacks. It requires a consciousness of purpose, divine purpose. It means riding the currents of truth no matter how high they rise, as they seek higher and higher spiritual levels, even the levels of spiritual perfection.
This concludes today's message on understanding how we catch flight upon the wings of love. We hope you find something in this message to ponder and pray about as you go about your day.
Until next time, this is Dr. James Perry.
