Greetings and good morning brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series
where we seek to explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years,
the heavenly Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth to me, and I want to share them
with you. This morning we seek to understand the relationship between faith and inspiration.
And now, sit back and listen to today's message.
The Relationship Between Faith and Inspiration
"But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding."
Job, Chapter 32, Verse 8.
Brothers and sisters, there is a relationship between faith and inspiration. We shall see how this
relationship works and how it leads to new truth and thus increased spiritual awareness and function.
We know that spiritual faith is essential for any grasp of truth, but is it also necessary for spiritual
inspiration?
Sometimes in our experiences, we observe someone, read something, or just observe the play of
thoughts in our minds. These experiences have often lifted us out of our ordinary level of awareness
and have imparted a new energy, a new insight. It is as if we catch fire and all our faculties are
elevated and surcharged. One thing is certain: we have been reinvigorated. We feel we can
understand what we could not previously and can function now in ways we could not before. We feel
that we have increased our status. And we have, but how did it happen?
Brothers and sisters, in response to our faith, the divine spirit reaches down and seizes our soul and
elevates it to new levels of communion and imparts new meanings and values to it. The divine spirit
imparts creative energy to our souls and this creative energy spills over into our minds and emotions.
Whenever we are inspired we are not the same as before. Now, not often in a given experience does
this reaching down by the divine spirit cause this phenomenon, this reaction to our whole
personality. It appears to take place when our attitudes are aimed toward supreme levels. This is the
revelation of new conscious truth. This truth causes us to respond in an inspirational way. The
recognition of new truth is the most exhilarating conscious spiritual joy known to our souls. New
revelations of truth to the soul further liberate the soul as it becomes aware of a new and higher
relationship with the heavenly Father, who is Truth.
Faith is essential to inspiration and thus to receiving new truth, for we understand that the inspiration
process is the reception of new truth. Faith is that all-purpose quality that makes it possible for us
to know truth, and the knowledge of truth is the knowledge of the Father. The exercise of faith on
behalf of unknown values and meanings soon cause these unknown values and meanings to become
known. Faith translates potential values and meanings into actual values and meanings so that they
are grasped by the soul in the spiritualized mind. Now faith in this instance is functioning to bring
about a change in the spiritual world. It is functioning as a spiritual machine. This same faith works
to bring about our growth, for it is the grasp of truth that constitutes spiritual growth.
When exercised faith releases the creative energies of the divine spirit; this is why in the absence of
faith nothing spiritual happens. Faith is available to all of us and is to be had by simply embracing
it. We have an innate desire to experience transcendent values and meanings in the otherwise routine
existence of our lives. When we view the panorama landscape of our lives with its material
difficulties, disappointments, and frustrations, we crave something more, something true, beautiful
and good, something eternal and spiritual, something that will satisfy our deepest longings and
desires.
Faith is the way to achieving all of those things that we long to grasp, that which is of the heavenly
Father. It is the mechanism that makes our spiritual desires a part of our souls. So faith is the trigger,
and inspiration is the bullet that lodges in our souls when the trigger of faith is pulled. Inspiration,
that enthusiastic positive state that captures our souls and transports them to new levels of
functioning, is the result of faith. Faith does not deliver us from the material difficulties of life, but
it does reveal hidden values and meanings concealed within that difficulty.
This concludes today's message on understanding the relationship between faith and inspiration. We
hope you find something in this message to ponder and pray about as you go about your day. Until
next time, this is Dr. James Perry.
