Greetings, brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series where we seek to
explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years, the heavenly
Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth to me, and I want to share them with you. This
morning we will ponder the meaning of supreme responsibility
.
And now, sit back and listen to today's message.
Supreme Responsibility
"If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness." Matthew,
Chapter 6, Verse 23.
Brothers and sister, reflect upon this story: A group of people are trapped in a dark cavern.
Connecting this cavern is a very long narrow tunnel. This tunnel is so narrow that only by walking
in a single file can the people ever hope to get out. They must pass through one by one. As they are
surrounded by darkness, wondering how they will get out, a man appears in the cavern with a dim
flashlight.
He has been sent on this rescue mission to find these lost souls. He encounters quite a bit of
resistance especially from those who are unaware of the truth that they are in darkness. Finally he
gets them lined up in a single file, placing those who do not know they are lost in the center. Those
who know they are lost are placed towards the front and towards the back of the line.
Now the procession begins to move forward very slowly. Only the leader with his dim light can see
where they are going, but his light is just bright enough to detect an even brighter light which he
follows. Those behind him cannot see anything at all and must accept by faith that they are on the
right trail, that they are heading in the right direction. Those in the middle are oblivious to all the
stirring and wonder why things had to change.
As the procession moves forward, the light at the end of the tunnel gets brighter and brighter, and
the tunnel gradually becomes wider so that the people begin to see a little light. But this is not the
case for those who are in the middle. This light of change and love causes quite a bit of confusion
and turmoil in their minds and souls as they awaken from a world of total darkness into the dawn
of the new day.
But the light is merciful, and only reveals a small amount of goodness at a time, allowing the
spiritual eyes of their souls to gradually adjust. And the grateful people are filled with hope and
inspiration, as well as love and thanksgiving. It finally occurs to them that someday they will be
completely delivered from the cavern of selfishness and the resultant tunnel of despair.
And now brothers and sisters, are you ready to shoulder the supreme responsibility? Are you ready
for the supreme trust that the Father has placed upon your souls? Does your flashlight of love have
spiritual batteries that never die? Are you willing to stop turning the flashlight of love off and on by
your endless complaints of injustice and prayers requesting to be assigned to an easier task? Can the
Father depend on you to do the job efficiently, cheerfully, and completely? Are you becoming more
and more dedicated to completing the struggle of good over evil, a struggle that you have been
entrusted with?
Brothers and sisters, all who find themselves in personal relationships with others that fall short of
the light of love they possess have the sacred task of stimulating the light of love in others by
continually bearing the fruits of the spirit. Prayer is the secret to renewing the spiritual energy
required for this task, as you request the Father to fill your soul to its utmost capacity with His divine
love, faith and trust. Pray that the Father will give you the spiritual power to love your brothers and
sisters in general the way that He loves them, and in particular the brother or sister that you have
been entrusted with to bring into the marvelous light of His love.
Brothers and sisters, pray that the Father will give you the spiritual understanding and wisdom to
complete the task according to His will rather than your own. Pray that the Father will give you the
spiritual courage and strength to carry out this merciful task. And pray for the spiritual power to
reinforce your decision to carry out the task according to the Father's will. And finally seek the
worship of the Father so that you will know the meanings and values of all these seemingly irritating
experiences.
This concludes today's message on understanding the meaning of supreme responsibility. We hope
you find something in this message to ponder and pray about as you go about your day. Until next
time, this is Dr. James Perry.
