Greetings and good morning brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series
where we seek to explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years,
the heavenly Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth with me, and I want to share them
with you. This morning we seek to spiritually give thanks on Father's day to our spiritual Father .
And now, sit back and listen to today's message.
Father's Day
"We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." Colossians, Chapter 1,
Verse 3.
Brothers and sisters, today we celebrate Father's Day, the heavenly Father, the one worthy of all
adoration and worship. So often in the past, we have overlooked the selfless Father. And like small
children we have often failed to know and to understand our merciful Father. We have often failed
to recognize and acknowledge the wonderful and countless things that He has done and does for us.
And while words can hardly express our soul's gratitude for the wonderful spiritual Father who loves
us so dearly, we would like to attempt to express our heartfelt thanks and express our worship for
the "one altogether lovely and chief among ten thousand."
Our glorious heavenly Father, we would first like to thank you for the life you have given us.
Without this life, nothing would be possible. And though it is a life that is mortal and subject to all
kinds of frailties, it is the foundation upon which the true life is built upon--that life made possible
by the creation of our souls by your divine spirit, and this life is eternal life. This life is destined to
go on forever, for it is like you Father, eternal and indestructible.
Next, Father, we thank you for the mind you have given us. Admittedly it is not perfect, but it is
adequate. It allows us to be self conscious and conscious of your divine spirit. It is in conjunction
with this divine spirit that our minds collaborate in our own spiritual recreation. This mind allows
us to choose, to make decisions. This mind allows us to feel, to know others. It allows us to think.
It gives us the ability to choose you, Father. We thank you, Father, for living within our minds and
souls. It is a real comfort and joy to know, Father, that you are always with us. No matter where we
go or what we do, you are always with us and in us, going through each and every experience with
us and as us. You are literally closer to us than any other.
Father, we thank you for our personality. Thank you for making each of us a unique individual. In
all eternity and infinity, there is none other that is just like each of us. This uniqueness allows us to
make personal choices and to personally experience your divine love. And although this stage of
development is characterized by a lot of negative material experiences due to the immaturity of the
decisions we make and the imperfection of the environment in which we chance to live, we thank
you for making them work out for our eternal good. Only you, Father, could make all things work
together for good, for our eternal salvation. One day we will literally stand in your divine presence.
We will be the same person who started this life in the flesh with such trials and tribulation, but what
a difference! We shall have become gloriously, spiritually perfect.
Thank you for these experiences, for even now we realize that they are essential to the technique of
self mastery. These experiences provide us with the stimuli for choosing your divine will. For in each
experience, we have the choice of choosing our way of dealing with the experience or choosing your
way. And each time we choose your way, Father, we become just a little bit more like you, and your
way is the way of love, patience, mercy, and forgiveness. And as we continue to chose your way, we
soon become so much like you that we recognize you and chose to become one with you. And now
we always say, "not my will but your will be done," forever and eternally. And how delighted we are
to know, Father, that you are working with us and through us. It's a great joy, Father, to know that
we are truly your sons and daughters.
And we thank you, Father, for the faith and trust that you have given us. We thank you for the work
you have given us to do Father. This faith and trust give us the divine assurance that we are indeed
proceeding through this life according to your divine will, always choosing your divine will. Nothing
can separate us from you, Father, for we are one. Thank you, Father, for teaching us that there is only
one true desire: to be one with you Father. And that desire is final, ultimate, and absolute and is
achieved by doing your divine will, for what we truly desire and you will, Father, is. Thank you,
Father, for the hope and divine inspiration that has sustained us through the many battles of this
mortal life.
Thank you, Father, for your divine Son, Jesus, who teaches us and leads us through the truths of this
life. For it was and is your Spirit of Truth that guides our souls, unfailingly crying in every crisis, "
this is the way; walk in it." Throughout all the confusing and material philosophies, all the selfish
tendencies, temptations, so-called short-cuts, and doubting bystanders; throughout the immature
years of error and evil, the Spirit of Truth stays with us and guides us onto the path of this marvelous
and glorious spiritual light. It taught our hearts to be true to you, Father. No matter what stage of
moral or spiritual development we are in, you are always there with suitable and practical
instructions.
After all of this, notwithstanding countless unknown mercies and blessings you have showered upon
us, there is only one reaction of our minds, souls, and personality and that is the reaction of
wholehearted worship. Our hearts know no other. You are indeed our true lover, the one that is
eternally faithful and trustworthy. You never falter. You never make mistakes. Sometimes in our
short-sighted assessments, it appears that something has gone wrong with the divine plan, but then
when we contemplate you on the absolute level, we find that your plan already includes these so-
called diversions. And not only is the divine plan inclusive of apparent delays and handicaps (of time
and space) but it is overflowing with divine values and meanings. Yes, Father, on this Father's day,
we worship you with the fullness of our being, with your Spirit of Truth, in truth and in spirit. Our
Father, we are forever yours and you are forever ours, and we are one. Hallelujah.
This concludes today's message on understanding meaning of spiritually thanking the Father on
Father's day. We hope you find something in this message to ponder and pray about as you go about
your day. Until next time, this is Dr. James Perry.
